He has been “plucking the strings” in many different combinations across the province but in latter years mainly on the South Shore. Pop, Country, Celtic, Traditional Sea Songs, Blues and Jazz are familiar items on his song list. He has two cd’s recorded with his good friend Jim Smith of their original material which have been well received. Back to perform again at Seafood Festival, Art’s solo show will be sure to have your toes tapping and your voices joining in to his eclectic repertoire of sea songs, novelty tunes and other old favorites. Pat WatsonPat Watson has been singing all of her life. Her love of music and theatre have been instrumental in shaping her life. Pat’s current repertoire includes jazz and gospel music. She also performs with the Nova Gospel Ensemble which is a dynamic 9-member gospel singing group. Pat has performed for two Lieutenant Governor’s of Nova Scotia, The Honourable Mayann Francis and Myra Freeman. She toured parts of Nova Scotia as a member of the South Shore Women in Jazz trio and was a part of the 2005 Halifax Jazz Festival. She has coordinated and directed gospel music workshops for Saint Margaret’s of Scotland Anglican Church in Halifax, The Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival and the Mahone Bay United Church. She has also conducted jazz and gospel music workshops for The Harmony Women’s Music Festival of women and song. Upcoming events include Lunenburg Waterfront Seafood Festival, Sister Fair Music and Arts Festival, Dress for Success fund raising event and the 3rd Annual Ukulele Festival. Pat was a cast member in the play, A Brief History of Chester: May Contain Nuts, The Gospel of Colonus at Neptune Theatre, the Revels Production and the play Copernicus. Primarily a saxophonist and clarinetist, he has been developing his pianist skills in the jazz idom for the past few years. A self-described “happy harmaniac”, John’s love for harmony in all forms is very evident in his playing. His sensitivity to musical style is often appreciated by singers such as Lisa Lelliot, Katrein and of course, Pat Watson. John writes for and directs the Octane Jazz Band, teaches at Buckley’s Music Centre in Halifax, and has several private students. Several years ago, John received the Lescarbot award, a Government of Canada recognition for his musical contributions to Liverpool and the South Queens area. The group has a large repertoire of Maritime/East Coast Music along with many folk, “roots” and popular numbers. The group has played many venues and festivals on the South Shore and in the Halifax area over the past four years, including last year’s Seafest. This year the Collage will offer a set of lively pub tunes from the Maritimes and the British Isles. Collage consists of: Dave Bell guitar, vocals Sharon Jackson vocals Janet Rae vocals Vonda Laffin vocals Hank Middleton lead accoustic and electric guitar, bass, vocals. The Ernst Family ![]() The Ernst Family is a vocal ensemble consisting of nine members, aged nine to adult, singing everything from solos to eight-part harmony. They perform Renaissance, classical, traditional sacred, black spiritual, and folk music. Most of the music is sung a cappella, with an occasional guitar accompaniment. The genetic similarity of the voices gives a harmonious blend rare in unrelated voices. The ensemble currently consists of parents Gregg (bass) and Jennie (soprano), and seven of their ten children - Joshua 23 (tenor), John 20 (tenor), Peter 18 (baritone), Elijah 16 (bass), Eva 15 (alto), Ruth 11 (soprano), and Esther 9 (soprano & alto). The family lives on a farm on First Peninsula, just outside of Lunenburg. Since they began singing publically nine years ago, they have released three CDs, performed for national television and radio, and toured the Maritimes, eastern US, and Ontario. The band formed slightly over a year ago and consists of Logan Tanner (vocals/Harmonica), Sebastien McSween (Guitar/Vocals/Percussion), Anthony Page (Guitar/Vocals) and Andrew Deveaux (Bass Guitar). Already gaining a reputation around local pubs for their fun, high energy shows “The Humdingers” are sure to get you up and moving from the first note! |
